An eye on EMO

This year’s EMO Milano 2021 exhibition, scheduled to take place at Fieramilano Rho from 4-9 October 2021, is dedicated to metalworking machine tools. Promoted by CECIMO, the European Association of Machine Tool Industries, the trade show has announced two important changes.

The first is related to the extension of the applicability period for the Early-Bird discount, postponed from 1 December 2020 to 14 February 2021.  The second change concerns penalties, which will be reduced.  Exhibitors are now able to cancel their participation in the trade show by 31 March 2021, losing only the security deposit, without the obligation of paying the entire fee as a penalty - as had been previously established.

Alfredo Mariotti, general manager of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, pointed out: “The historical period we all are experiencing complicates company activities. We are receiving numerous applications but also believe that, in the next few weeks, we will see many more thanks to positive news on the dissemination of vaccines. This will allow a return to the normal mobility of goods and people, encouraging the recovery of all activities as well as participation in trade shows, which have been particularly penalised by the health emergency.”

The worldwide vaccination campaign from the beginning of 2021 and the Italian Transition 4.0 incentive plan create a favourable backdrop for EMO MILANO 2021, said the show organiser, citing Oxford Economics analysis, which highlights a recovery in demand for 2021.

“Global consumption should increase by 18.4% to 70 billion euros in 2021, whereas consumption in Europe should grow by 23.5% to 16.6 billion euros. Germany and Italy should register remarkable growth rates. German demand should go up to 5.6 billion euros, i.e. 21% more than in 2020, whereas Italian demand should reach 3.1 billion euros, corresponding to 38.2% more than the previous year,” it explained.

EMO will showcase a range of machine tools; robots; automation; enabling technologies; systems for interconnected and digital factories; additive manufacturing; auxiliary technologies and solutions for production streamlining and industrial sustainability. The Fieramilano halls will host what UCIMU calls ‘the biggest digital factory ever set up within an exhibition fairground’. Predictive maintenance; remote assistance; data analysis; collaborative robotics; automation; interconnection and artificial intelligence will be among the technological themes presented. As an exhibit and demonstration area, EMO Digital will illustrate the potential of the digital factory.
